I. Goals
O'Melveny & Myers LLP has established and funded the O'Melveny & Myers Shanghai Legal Scholarship (the "Scholarship") to contribute to legal exchanges and cooperation between China and the U.S., to facilitate an understanding of the law by China's younger generation, to reward meritorious students and to educate more competent legal professionals for China.
II. Recipients
Recipients should be the third year full-time undergraduates or second year full-time postgraduate students, at the School of Law of Fudan University, the East China University of Politics and Law, or the School of Law of the Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade.
III. Scholarship Awards
Number of Scholarships: Nine, of which three are First Level and six are Second Level.
Scholarship Amount: First Level scholarship recipients receive RMB12,000 each, and Second Level recipients receive RMB6,000 each.
IV. Qualifications for the Scholarships
1. Diligence and good grades;
2. Compliance with university rules and moral codes;
3. Certificate of English evidencing that the applicant has passed the College English Test Level VI.
V. Method of Selection
1. The candidates must first be recommended from qualified registered full-time students majoring in law at the School of Law of Fudan University, the East China University of Politics and Law or the School of Law of the Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade.
2. Each of the above schools may recommend four undergraduates and three postgraduate students.
3. The above schools should prepare a list of candidates and materials for each candidate for submission to the Selection Committee. The materials for each candidate should include a resume, school transcripts with rankings, official comments on the character of the candidate, and references from two professors. If the candidate has publications, the materials should include a professional review by one professor and general comments by another professor.
4. The Selection Committee will conduct a preliminary review of the materials submitted by the schools and select submission to the Selection Committee. 5. Nine scholarship winners will be finally selected on the basis of votes cast after the interviews, of which six should be undergraduates and three postgraduate students.
6. Out of the nine winners, three should be designated as Class 1 winners, and six should be Class 2 winners. If among the three Class 1 winners one is by far the best, he or she will receive special mention, without changing the status of other winners.
VI. The Make-up of the Selection Committee
The Selection Committee will consist of distinguished legal professionals, professors of law, and representatives from O'Melveny & Myers.
VII. The number of Scholarship recipients for each year and amount of the scholarships will be decided by O'Melveny & Myers.
VIII. The Selection Committee will have the power to interpret these Articles.
